17 Jun Interview with the Boss, Darren Mooney – Creative Director

We know that our clients like to know a little bit about who they’re working with and so we bring the first of a series of interviews with the team, and where better than to start at the top. We grab five minutes with our Creative Director, Darren, and quiz him for your sheer entertainment.
How long have you been with the company?
Since it was born… 16 years ago
What do you enjoy most about working here?
Everyday is different. I love taking a written brief from a client and then turning it into something real and tangible. I especially love the difference we can make with internal comms campaigns – the visual impact of our creative work can really make a difference to how people feel every day.
Where would you like the company to be in five years?
In New York 😉 I’m a bit of sucker for Mad Men and would love an office in Manhattan, maybe we’ll start with Shoreditch and then NY.
What makes you good at your job?
I like to think I can help our designer grow with advice on creative projects but do it in a very informal way. I’m a big believer in ownership and it’s important to me that a designer always retains ownership of a project as this is how they really produce great work and in turn keep our amazing customers happy.
Describe yourself in three words
Fun, Memorable and Creative, although everyone at Global may have another three in mind.
Who would you want to play you in a film of your life?
Matthew McConaughey, a couple people have said I look like him. He’s better looking than me though, but I’m funnier than him 😉
What can’t you live without?
My Heart! It’s what drives my passion for both life and business.
Cake or biscuits?
Cake but it’s got to be Carrot with a Costa Coffee vanilla latte.
Tell us about the first project you ever worked on
A student disco flyer and poster. Without that job we would have never started Global.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Play football, socialise and relax with my lovely family.
