Global Celebrate new InBrief magazine at Christchurch Food Festival

This year’s Christchurch Food Festival was bigger and busier than ever, with even more fantastic local food and drink producers showcasing at the event.

Before the weekend got going, we held a prelaunch event on the eve of the festival in celebration our sponsorship of the festival and launch of InBrief Christchurch Food Festival special.

There was also plenty going on throughout the festival itself, including a variety of demonstrations from top celebrity and local chefs. Even our very own Creative Director got in on the act on the first day of the festival by taking part in the ‘Cook a Thon’ challenge… read on!

Alongside foodie feasts, were the very best Christchurch bartenders battling it out to be named winner in the Conker Spirit Cocktail competition.

Most importantly, it stayed dry which certainly helped draw in the crowds over the weekend. Stall holders and entertainment stretched from the High Street, all the way down to the Quay, highlighting just how many brilliant and diverse food and drink producers we have right on our doorstep.

Global’s Pre-launch Event

We kicked everything off with a bang, by hosting an event in the VIP Hospitality Marquee on Friday evening prior to the launch of the Food Festival weekend. Not only was this a celebration of our third year as the creative and print sponsor of the festival, we also launched a Food Festival special edition of InBrief Magazine. It was also the first of many events we’re hosting throughout the 18th year of our creative adventure.

The special edition of InBrief featured many of the traders at the show including Purbeck Ice Cream, Pothecary Gin and Jimmy’s Iced Coffee.

The event was an informal networking opportunity that was well attended by a range of local businesses. Everyone got to enjoy some festive fizz and nibbles, leaving with a goodie bag with contents kindly supplied by many of our generous friends, including Mr Lee’s Noodles, Koh Thai, Seventa Events and Double Dutch Drinks.

Christchurch Food Festival, Day 1: Our Creative Director becomes a Sous Chef success!

On Saturday, Global Creative Director, Darren got the opportunity to demonstrate his cooking skills in the Demonstration Marquee in the ‘Cook A Thon’ Challenge.

Supported by Colin Nash from the Three Tuns, Darren cooked what he describes as “cold cucumber soup for starter, fish dish with turbot and sea bream for main and puff pastry tower of whipped cream and bananas with caramelised sauce drizzle.” As you can tell, Darren isn’t known for his culinary talents so we’re very impressed that he won the audience’s vote and claimed victory.

Sunshine, fab food and creative cocktails

The sun continued to shine on Sunday, with plenty more delicious treats on offer. One of the final events in the Demonstration Marquee was the Conker Spirit Cocktail Competition with bartenders from local venues battling it out to come out on top. The Captain’s Club, Chewton Glen, Koh Noi and Bodega created their own cocktails especially for the competition to prove that they had the flair and skill to be named best bartender. The winner was bartender Lillie Hirst from Chewton Glen who created not just one but two amazing cocktails inspired by the kitchen garden at Chewton Glen.

Christchurch Food Festival continues to get bigger and bigger and it was a fantastic weekend. We were delighted to once again be the design and print sponsors and would like to thank everyone who attended our launch event on Friday and supplied the contents of our goodie bags.

If you missed out on the main festival weekend, there are further special events running throughout May. Head to christchurchfoodfestival.co.uk for more information. Check out all the photos from our launch party over on our Facebook page.
