Past Inspiration

Inspired by the past, we designed their future. London needed Swedish coffee and Fika & Folly wanted to deliver on its promise of serving great Swedish coffee and food in a fun and relaxed environment. The word Fika means ‘to have coffee, often accompanied with pastries or sandwiches’, so, when the perfect site was found in Bermondsey Square, London, Global were excited to be commissioned to create an engaging brand with a huge personality to attract those that share appreciation of great coffee. HEJ was to be perceived as that cool, humorous Swedish café we all love – known for serving great food and coffee of distinction. The brand assets needed to have a Swedish edge and reflect the brand’s flirtatious personality.

Future Creation

We used their past to inspire us, and their future to shape them. Global worked with Fika & Folly to fully understand the heritage, provenance and landscape that they were about to embark on. Our aim, was to create something really special that would stick and gain advocates along the way who would really feel a part of something inclusive. After the brand development, it was time to bring the HEJ brand into the physical café environment – providing an immersive brand experience on the café floor that established them as the go-to café for superior coffee. Global designed a concept that fit in with the personality of the brand which was minimalist and Scandinavian with an air of playfulness. This was brought to life through messaging, signage, packaging and menus, amongst other touchpoints.

The destination

HEJ has become a centre of excellence, a community space, and a buzzy café with a ‘neighbourhood vibe’ in the centre of Bermondsey, London. HEJ continues to go from strength to strength, sharing the coffee love with cafés in three key London city locations – Bermondsey, Elephant and Castle and the beautiful Somerset House.
